Measure Length & Width

Using a Tape Measure. Measure the length and width of the filter. Record the shorter dimension first for rectangular filters.

Measure the Depth

Measure the filter's thickness from front to back to determine the depth.

Understand Sizes

Nominal Size The rounded dimensions typically used for 'standard size' filters, e.g., a filter actually measuring 19.5 x 19.5 x 0.75 inches is usually listed as 20 x 20 x 1 inches.

Actual Size When measuring for 'non-standard' sizes note the precise measurements you require for a tight fit into the rack. This is crucial for ensuring the filter fits properly in your HVAC system.
